A Big Catch Up

We've been busy since Christmas doing various things...

We've sanded the floorboards, varnished the floor and painted a border on it in the back bedroom! We've also got the bed but we've not moved in there yet as we're just waiting to get the curtains sorted! The beds not in place yet and we've got the bedding but not put it all on! We're going to move the bedside tables etc from the front room into this one.

We've also finally got new curtains in the front bedroom which I'm really pleased with! They're from IKEA and they're velvety and teal! Sorry the photos not very good but it's hard to get the right light taking a photo of a window!

The garden fence blew down last week in a storm so Nathan has spent the weekend putting it back up! There's just a gap at the end now we need to fill in and when going to make a new gate for when we get the dog!!

We went to Bath this week which was lovely! Here are a couple of photos!

Christmas Decs!

We've got our Christmas decorations up! I've made a few decorations as well! I did the dried orange slices that I did a couple of years ago that look really nice with a fairy light behind them. We also had some pine cones from Centre Parcs that I hadn't got round to sorting out yet so I bleached them which I saw online makes them go a really nice colour and have used them as decorations!

Blue Bedroom And The Roof!

We've painted the back bedroom now apart from touching up a few edges. We had to do 2 coats of watered down white paint to seal the plaster then we painted the wall with the window white and the other 3 walls Bluetooth teal! We really like the colour!

This is the sort of thing that we are copying... Minus the cow rug (photo from Pinterest!).

We've had our roof mended this week. We started to get a patch on the bedroom ceiling so somebody came to have a look and said the roof needed mending and the last home owner had put a plastic sheet up there to cover a hole! It was around the bay where it was particularly bad as there was no edging on it or something! As the roof is slate we needed a bit of scaffolding up so they could get up there properly. We did think about painting it while the scaffolding is up but it's not over the whole front and we don't have a long ladder, plus it's been too rainy! They guy who painted next door just did it on a ladder so we will probably get someone to do that in the summer. It's all mended now though and we've had less condensation in the bedroom since its been mended, hopeful,y that will help to stop any damp too! The guy that mended it is also going to come and sort out the back of the house over the next few weeks as the lintel above the bedroom window is very loose and there are some cracks in the wall. He said he can inject some filler type thing into the wall that fills up any cracks but then sets to hold it all together. Then it will need painting and sealing but that can wait until the summer.

The job for next weekend is sanding the floor boards, we need to hire Mum and Dad like last time!

Plastering The Back Bedroom (Name by Dad!!)

We've had the back bedroom plastered today! It's nearly finished and is looking good! When we stripped the wallpaper a bit of plaster was loose so we pulled it off and it was back to the brick so he's filled that in today and will poster that wall tomorrow!

We've seen the lamps we want to get for he wall either side of the bed from IKEA! We're starting to look into beds as well. Nathan wants one that doesn't has an end on the foot of the bed as he is tall and I prefer wooden ones but a lot of wooden ones do have an end. We were wondering about getting a plain bed with a really nice headboard, maybe an upcycled one but we need to do some research into that!

Nathan is choosing a lot of the things for this bedroom! I think we're going to have a navy colour on the all and maybe a section of wallpaper but we haven't fully decided yet. We're going to keep the floorboards like in the other room but might paint them or paint a boarder on them to make it look a bit different! I think we're also going to have a desk in there with a computer. We've decided to put the bed on the wall opposite the fireplace and we can put shelves and stuff on either side of the fireplace then.

Hallway Update

I've been trying to make the hallway look a bit nicer until we knock through the wall by the stairs which probably won't be for a while. We've got a new rug to go over the tiles. The tiles have got more dull again and I think they need some kind of sealant on them then a shiny varnish because the one I put on last time must have soaked in.

Mum and dad got us this wooden bucket from an upcycling fair and I've seen a photo on pinterest that I want to copy where they have filled it with logs and pine cones (and I might put some fairy lights in)!

I forgot to take a hoot before but I've painted the shoe cupboard with white gloss paint and changed the handles. I've painted the inside of the cupboard grey too!

Nathan bought this mirror for about £2 from a charity shop so I thought it would give a go to putting "gold" leaf on it! It was really fun to do and I quite like how it looks worn and messy so Im not going to tidy it up at all. I left the middle section with the wood showing and put the gold on either side. I had to paint on a glue and leave it to go tacky then lay the tiny sheets of gold leaf on. It was quite fiddly and there were flakes of gold flying round the garden but it didn't take very long to do! I tried to drill a hole in the wall but I can't get the hole to go in enough so I'm waiting for Nathan to get back from his weekend away to put it up in the hallway by the front door.

Back To Work!

We've had a week or so off doing jobs and now it's the bank holiday weekend were back to work! I've just been in the garden for a few hours so here is how things are looking... The rest of the weekend we're going to clear out the back bedroom so we can make a start in there with the decorating!

I dug out a corner in the garden to plant some plants I had got recently! It was hard work digging it up!! I've planted a birch tree in the middle that we got free from the Royal Welsh Show so hopefully that will grow a bit and look nice too! I've also added the plant Grandma and Grandad got me into one of the borders.

I pulled all the sweet peas out of their pot and instead planted the rose that Dad has grown from a cutting!

Dressing Room

We've pretty much finished the dressing room now! We just want a radiator cover and some boxes to go on the shelves! We've got a clothes rail each and a section t the side to hang dresses!
Nathan made the railings out of scaffolding poles which we covered in white sticky back plastic! Also we won a free full length mirror in ikea which goes really nicely in there!!

I painted a mirror we got a whole ago turquoise to go in the front bedroom with chalk paint. I got a cheaper version of Annie Sloane paint from Hobby Craft but it wasn't as good! It's come out quite good though! We've not got it on the wall yet because I need to want until the chest of drawers goes into the back room after we have decorated that!
